Wale Edun

Mr. Wale Edun, OFR, is a distinguished economist and financial strategist with a career spanning over four decades. His exemplary service, both in the public and private sectors, has earned him national and international recognition as a visionary leader in fiscal management and economic development.

Mr. Edun holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of London and a Master’s degree in Development Economics from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex. His professional experience includes notable roles at Chase Merchant Bank, Lagos; the World Bank/IFC in Washington, D.C.; Lehman Brothers; and Chase Manhattan Bank, New York.

 

He is the founder of Denham Management Limited and former Chairman of Chapel Hill Denham Group. As Commissioner for Finance, Lagos State (1999–2004), he implemented significant fiscal reforms and modernisation initiatives. Mr. Edun also established West Africa Ratings Limited, later integrated into Moody’s Global Credit Ratings (GCR). He has chaired the Ogoni Trust Fund and, in 2023, was appointed to the Board of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MoFI).

A committed advocate of youth and community development, Mr. Edun serves as International Trustee of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and Chairs its Nigerian Chapter, as well as the Lagos Boxing Hall of Fame. He is a recipient of the national honour of Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR).

Following the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2023, Mr. Edun was appointed Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, where he manages Nigeria’s fiscal and economic transformation agenda under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
